Neymar shines in Al Hilal debut, but stiffer tests await
Brazilian dazzles in cameo appearance, assists two goals in 6-1 win
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- Neymar made a dazzling cameo appearance in his Saudi Pro League debut for Al Hilal on Friday, assisting two goals in a 6-1 win over Al Riyadh.
The 31-year-old Brazilian, who joined Al Hilal from Paris Saint-Germain last month, came off the bench in the 65th minute with his new team already leading 3-0.
Neymar quickly made his presence felt, setting up Moussa Marega for Al Hilal's fourth goal in the 73rd minute. He then turned provider again for Salem Al Dawsari, who made it 5-0 in the 79th minute.
Despite not scoring himself, Neymar's performance was highly impressive. He showed his trademark dribbling skills and passing ability, and looked dangerous every time he touched the ball.
"Neymar played only 25 minutes plus added time, but he looked a class apart," said Al Hilal coach Ramon Diaz. "He was involved in three goals and managed to claim an assist as well."
Al Hilal's victory moved them to the top of the Saudi Pro League standings with 16 points from six matches. Neymar will be hoping to continue his good form when Al Hilal face Al Feiha in their next league game on September 22.
However, stiffer tests await Neymar and Al Hilal in the coming weeks. They will kick off their AFC Champions League campaign on September 19 against Shabab Al Ahli Dubai, and will also face Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup on September 26.
