Sheffield United On Brink Of Relegation After Manchester United Defeat
Blades Now 10 Points Adrift Of Safety With Just Four Games Remaining
Forest Could Seal United's Fate On Sunday If They Beat Manchester City
Sheffield United's hopes of avoiding relegation from the Premier League suffered a major blow on Wednesday night as they were beaten 3-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Blades, who started the day 10 points adrift of safety, could now be relegated on Sunday if Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
United took the lead in the 26th minute through Anthony Martial, who fired home from close range after being set up by Marcus Rashford. Rashford then doubled the lead just before half-time, finishing off a fine move involving Martial and Bruno Fernandes.
Sheffield United never looked like getting back into the game in the second half, and United added a third goal in the 74th minute through Mason Greenwood.
The result leaves Sheffield United on the brink of relegation, with just four games remaining. They are now 10 points behind 17th-placed Brighton & Hove Albion, and have a vastly inferior goal difference.
Nottingham Forest, who are currently 18th, could seal United's fate on Sunday if they beat Manchester City. If Forest win, Sheffield United will be relegated regardless of their own result against Crystal Palace.
