Zverev Wins Rome Title Ends Jarrys Breakthrough Run

Zverev Wins Rome Title, Ends Jarry's Breakthrough Run

First Title of the Year, Sixth Masters 1000 Win

Alexander Zverev claimed his first title of the year and first since winning at Chengdu in September with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Nicolas Jarry in the Rome final on Sunday.

Zverev, who also won the Rome title in 2017, was in dominant form throughout the tournament, losing just one set en route to the final. Against Jarry, he fired 13 aces and won 84% of his first-serve points.

Jarry, meanwhile, was playing in his first Masters 1000 final after a breakout season that has seen him rise to No. 39 in the world rankings. The Chilean put up a valiant effort against Zverev, but he was ultimately unable to overcome the German's power and consistency.

With the victory, Zverev moves to 6-1 in his career against Jarry. He will now turn his attention to the French Open, which begins on Sunday.
